The library staff hopes to increase its parking spaces and provide a smoother entry into the library by fully paving its parking lot.

The Select Board gave the go-ahead for the paving project during its meeting last week.

Currently, said Library Director Julie Perrin, the library’s lot is only about half paved, with the rest of the parking area covered in gravel, which doesn’t always make for smooth travel for elderly patrons or mothers with strollers.

Having the whole lot paved will also allow the library to put down painted lines, which will more clearly designate handicapped spots – now designated with signs – and hopefully improve the parking situation overall, said Perrin.

“It’s just to improve the whole patron experience,” said Perrin. “It will help with maintenance, in the the sense of plowing, and just with people getting in and out.”

Perrin said she does not expect the paving to interupt library hours, and the library will do everything to minimize the impact on patrons during the work.

The paving has yet to be scheduled.
