A community organization has donated $10,000 to the Monadnock Bible Conference to assist with the start-up costs associated with their new after-school program.
The Community Center of Jaffrey presented members of MBC with a check during a community meeting on Wednesday night.
“One parent called me and you could almost see the tears in her eyes over the phone,” said Community Center Treasurer Owen Houghton, about the joy in the community about the new program. “You guys came in at the right time.”
MBC recently announced that their new after-school program Launch Point would begin accepting students K-8, offering numerous services including homework help, snack time, and various opportunities for play. The program kicks off Oct. 3 and runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“We are built for activities,” said Camp Director Roy Baldwin, who said MBC has an indoor pool, mini golf course, craft room, and more.
Baldwin said he anticipates that up to half of the kids who previously were in Jaffrey’s extended day program could join MBC’s program, which would be able 60 kids.
To learn more about the program, to sign up a child, or to figure out how to volunteer for the after-school program, call MBC at 532-8321.
