The Heritage Commission in Francestown is hosting its first ever town picnic this weekend to bring Francestown residents together and bring awareness to the upcoming work needed on the historic Town Hall.

The event will primarily take place Sunday, Sept. 25, with a concert Saturday the night before, all at the Town Common near the Town Hall.

โ€œIt really is a time to get everyone together and have a nice time on a Sunday afternoon,โ€ Heritage Commission Chair Michele Ferencsik said. โ€œItโ€™s a coming together time for our town.โ€

The Heritage Commission has been working to rehabilitate the Francestown Town Hall, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places this year. Ferencsik hopes that events like the town picnic will remind people of the potential the Town Hall has to be a community center.

It will provide a scenic backdrop for the picnic if the weather cooperates, and if not, the events will be moved inside, even more a demonstration of the Hallโ€™s importance.

โ€œWeโ€™re trying to keep people aware we have work to do, and what the Town Hall can be,โ€ Ferencsik said.

The picnic will be for families, but she said it will be especially exciting for kids.

The Francestown Childrens Chorus will perform, and its setlist will include a special song about the Hall.

There will be music and face-painting, games and prizes for everyone. The Heritage Museum will have materials on display.

The event is free to the public and people are encouraged to bring a lunch, or pick one up at the Village Store.
