“Everyone deserves to be able to move with energy and grace,” said tai chi instructor David Rosen.

It’s easy to find Rosen, of Temple, in the mornings. Every day at 9 a.m., he can be found on the Temple town common, leading a free tai chi class.

Tai chi is a form of Chinese martial arts, and while still used for self defense, has in more recent times been viewed by the general public as a form of meditation and for its health benefits. That’s something that Rosen, who has been practicing tai chi for 30 years, certainly sees through his own practice, he said.

“It builds strength and awareness,” said Rosen. “It improves circulation, balance, and cognitive wellness, which we know is important to maintain as you get older.”

Gail Nord, a resident of Austin, Texas, who is spending the summer in Mont Vernon, has been making the trip to Temple to attend the class. She has taken some tai chi classes in the past, she said, and has seen improvement in her balance.

“It’s a very slow moving and meditative practice. It’s very relaxing and reduces stress, and for me, it creates a sense of greater well-being,” said Nord.

Rosen will continue to hold free tai chi classes on the common every day at 9 a.m., weather permitting, until the weather becomes too cold.

In addition to the free classes on the Temple Common, Rosen, who is the owner of Temple T’ai Chi, he also hopes to be able to continue classes at a mimimal cost through the Temple Recreation Department once the weather turns cold. Rosen will also begin teaching a tai chi class at the Bond Wellness Center at Monadnock Community Hospital on Sept. 21. For more information about tai chi classes, contact Rosen at 878-3968.
