The Monadnock Mountaineers 4-H club will hold a first organizational meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the hall at Silver Ranch Stable in Jaffrey. An overview of the current project groups will be featured.
Anyone with ideas for new project groups is encouraged to come and provide their input. Any hobby or interest can become a 4-H project either as a group or as an individual.
The current project groups are Livestock, under the leadership of Jim Weidner, which will be meeting on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon; Horses, under the leadership of Rachel Hennessy, which will be meeting on the third Thursday of each month from 4 to 5:30 p.m.; Cloverbuds, under the leadership of Sarah Bulson, meeting on the first Friday of each month; and Sewing, under the leadership of Cathy Maki, meeting the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
The children were busy over the past year providing demonstrations and information at Scarecrows on the Common and Riverfest in Jaffrey and at Tractor Supply in Rindge. They also had several community service projects and are always willing to answer any questions regarding 4-H.
The most recent 4-H year culminated with many of the children showing their projects at the fairs around the state. Many ribbons and premiums were won and spirits are high. The time and effort put into their projects was rewarded in the show ring or display cases and new friendships formed and nurtured through helping one another, friendly competition and days of camping and having fun.
