To the editor:
As a longtime undeclared voter here in the Monadnock region, I’ve met a number of elected officials and candidates for public office from all walks of life and political affiliations. That’s why I was pleased to learn that Gary J. Carpenter is running for state representative. Even though he is unopposed on the Republican ballot, I’d like to share a few reasons why I believe Gary would be a good voice for us in Concord.
I’ve known Gary for a decade, ever since our sons were on the championship winning Little League baseball team together. In the years since then, I have come to respect Gary’s passion for improving the lives of our nation’s veterans. As a Vietnam-era veteran and a member of the New Hampshire Legislative Commission on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, Gary has a keen insight into the needs and potential of those who have returned to civilian life after serving in uniform. Among his many accomplishments, Gary has served as founder and CEO of Right Fit Careers, providing business coaching and addictions training to people with disabilities and veterans, and as founder and director of the Warriors Addiction Support Home that will soon provide a home in Keene for recovering veterans.
Gary is also keenly aware of the challenges we face to prepare for an oncoming “silver tsunami” of aging issues, including affordable eldercare options.
While these issues are close to Gary’s heart, he is also a very good listener and is genuinely interested to learn what is on the minds of voters. He is authentic and a good family man whom I respect and admire. I encourage readers to learn more about Gary Carpenter and join me in extending him your support on the state primary election day, Sept. 13.
