On Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. the Peter Michael Abbott Memorial Fund will sponsor its seventh annual 5K+ Run and Fitness Walk at ConVal High School.
Abbott, a 1979 ConVal graduate who served as captain of the basketball and soccer teams, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 2009.
“The Peter Michael Abbott Memorial Fund was created as a way to exemplify the importance of making each day a masterpiece by investing meaningful time in people and by doing something kind for somebody who cannot repay you,” reads the fund’s mission statement.
For the fourth year in a row, the fund will honor a special group who best exemplified the humanitarian spirit of the Peter Michael Abbott Memorial Fund by “investing meaningful time in people and by rendering kindness to mankind without cradling the thought of receiving something in return.”
The recipients of the 2016 Peter Michael Abbott Humanitarian Service Award are Liz LaRoche and Kim Sweeney.
For seven years, the fund has offered high school academic scholarships, and the 2016 ConVal High School graduate going on to college recipients of the Peter Michael Abbott Memorial 2016 Scholarship are Reilly McCarty of Peterborough and Douglas White of Dublin.
The flat, fast, and fun 5K+ Run & Walk will start and finish at the ConVal football stadium. Participants will journey along parts of the scenic rail-trails of the former Boston & Maine Railroad bed nestled in the wooded forest of North Peterborough.
Early registration fees: $20 per person, $50 per family 3 or more, $10 per student ages 6-18, $5 per student group of 10 or more. Registration form and signed waiver must be received by Sept. 7.
Race Day registration fees: $25 per person, $55 per family 3 or more, $15 per student ages 6-18, $5 per student group of 10 or more.

The race will be followed by an Otis & The Elevators musical tribute benefit concert at the Monadnock Country Club from 7 to 11 p.m. Ticket prices are $13 per person prior to the concert and $15 per person at the door. To purchase a ticket in advance, contact Mary Pat Burke at 933-3693.
