A Temple man was airlifted from Wilton after crashing a motorcycle on Route 101 on Monday night.
David Martz, 66, was driving east on Route 101 on a 1994 Honda motorcycle when he came upon a line of cars that were stopped, waiting for a vehicle turning left on to Old County Farm Road. Unable to stop in time, Martz’s motorcycle entered a skid and went onto its side, sliding off the road and striking an embankment. Martz was ejected from the motorcycle and landed about 15 feet away, receiving serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to Brent Hautanen, police chief.
Martz sits on several boards, including the Temple Zoning Board and Village Green Committee and represents Temple on the ConVal School Board.
Martz was transported to Monadnock Water in Wilton, where a helicopter transported him to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, according to Hautanen.
Martz was still in the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, said Hautanen, who classified his injuries as serious.
Route 101 was closed for about 45 minutes while crews cleared the scene. Hautanen said the accident is under investigation.
