A Jaffrey man was arraigned on Monday on charges that he sexually assaulted a minor in Peterborough in March.
James Macgown, 24, did not issue a plea, and is due in court again on July 18.
As a condition of his bail, Macgown is not permitted within 300 feet of the minor he allegedly assaulted or the residence where the incident occurred.
He faces charges of felonious sexual assault of a minor, and aggravated felonious sexual assault. Both charges stem from the March 4 incident.
The first of these charges that he had sexual contact with someone who was not his legal spouse and was under the age of 13.
The latter charges that the sexual contact was intentional and with the purpose of arousal or sexual gratification.
The incident occurred at a residence on Union Street in Peterborough on March 4, 2016.
Macgown allegedly entered the bedroom of a 9-year-old girl at approximately 4 a.m., lay next to her in her bed, and touched her sexual areas, above and beneath her clothes.
The girl told her mother the next day, and Macgown told police he had gotten very drunk and did not remember anything before being awoken that morning, according to an affidavit.
He was arrested in Jaffrey on May 18 on a warrant. He later admitted to Sergeant Michael Chapdelaine of Peterborough police that the victim’s accusations were true, according to the affadavit.
Macgown has previously been charged with criminal mischief.
He has also been arrested on multiple drug charges, including for possession of Oxycodone on the same day he had been arrested on the warrant and released on bail. He was transported to the house of corrections.
MacGown is due in court again on Monday, July 18, for his probable cause hearing.
