Peterborough Fire and Rescue responded to a fire on Hunt Road near Route 202 on Sunday evening, June 26.

The fire consumed what is being classified as a barn or shed at a Peterborough residence.

“We had a utility shed, it was totally destroyed by fire,” said Chief Ed Walker.

He said that a falling tree brought down electrical wires, starting the fire in thee 13-by-30-foot structure.

While there were some items being stored in the shed, Walker described it as “not in active use.”

Peterborough’s fire department is entirely on-call, meaning no firefighters were on duty at the station at the time of the fire.

“We stuggled just to get adequate manpower, being a Sunday night,” Walker said.

By the end of the incident, Peterborough had been assisted by authorities from 8 municipalities in the area. This is not uncommon because small towns in the Monadnock region have small teams and few resources to fight fires.
