Reds of Jaffrey hopes to have their gas pumps operational in the next week.

The fuel company’s pumps have not been in operation since June 13, when construction began. Reds is replacing the underground piping and the pump.

“Our tanks were already in compliance, so it was an easy decision to spend the money,” said John Peard, president of Reds. “We’ve been around so long. We want to remain a hometown full service gas station.”

Peard said that the changes occurring at Reds were a result of recently enacted state gas station regulations.

The new regulations require that gas stations use double-walled underground storage tanks, which Reds already had, as well as new piping. The requirements were put into place in 1985, but companies were given until the end of last year to comply, as most storage tanks have 30-year warranties.

Throughout construction, Peard said the repair garage has and will continue to remain open to customers.
