The Monadnock Chorus Chamber Singers will present a concert titled “Something Old, Something New” at the Hancock Meetinghouse on Sunday, June 26, at 4 p.m.
The program is a reflection on how compositional styles have changed throughout time, and how different composers chose to treat the same subject matter, based on the musical trends at the time as well as their own individual tastes. The musical pieces with similar texts, titles, themes and sentiments are taken from contemporary composers as well as much earlier ones.
For instance, “An Evening Prayer” set by Thomas Tallis (1505-85) followed by a contrasting yet complementary setting of “An Evening Prayer” by Rod Mather, published in 2002.
There is no admission but donations will be graciously accepted.
Proceeds from this concert will benefit the Hancock Woman Club’s scholarship fund as well as its charitable fund.
