Greenfield’s town gardener told members of the town’s Board of Selectmen last week that she plans to resign at the end of the season.
Mary Ann Grant said that the time commitment is too much after about 9 years watering Greenfield’s flower beds.
“Fourth of July weekend last year, everyone’s out, going to the beach,” she said. “And I was here watering.”
The two members of the select board who were present, Chairman Margaret Charig Bliss and Robert Marshall, said they will consider her input when seeking a replacement.
“Anyone who you recommend will be better than someone walking in off the streets,” said Charig Bliss.
Similarly, Marshall said, “We’d like someone who shares you commitment in the community.”
The town has 13 flower beds, including at Oak Park, the site of the June 25 anniversary celebration, which will be the biggest event of Clark’s time tending to the flower beds. She laughingly agreed it would be like her swan song.
The Oak Park celebration will also feature a raised flag at Oak Park, whose mast has been empty. The town is installing a spotlight above the gazebo to light the flag at night.
One of the sponsored tables on June 25 will belong to the recycling center. A representative from the recycling center addressed the board during the public forum.
As part of its raffle, the recycling center will be giving away tickets to see the band Recycled Percussion. The group tours nationally, but originated in Goffstown.
The board will consider reimbursing the cost of the tickets.
In other seasonal business, Town Administrator Aaron Patt said beaches are likely to have lifeguards by June 22, but an exact date will depend on weather and other factors.
