The works of David Dodge are being featured through April at Trumpet, the fine arts and idea gallery.
Dodge, well-known Monadnock region artist who paints landscapes, primarily en plein air, is a continual student of nature and traditional landscape art. As he describes, “My love of the outdoors and the landscape began while growing up in the Connecticut River Valley of New Hampshire, where the farmland looks to Mount Ascutney.” Dodge finds New Hampshire’s rugged and varied landscape a constant inspiration, as well as Nantucket, Maine and California coasts, Arizona, and Scotland.
He explains that the urge to paint is somewhat mystical. “When I see something interesting, I feel the need to explore and paint. Thoreau said, ‘each experience reduces itself to a mood in the mind.’ If I can get some of that into a painting, it’s been a good day.”
Dodge is a past president of Monadnock Art/Friends of the Dublin Art Colony, Dublin, and a member of Left Bank Artists Group, and Sharon Arts Center, The New Hampshire Art Association, and the Sedona (Arizona) Art Center. He is also involved with the Healing Art Gallery at Monadnock Community Hospital.
