There’s no hiding talent.
Mason Elementary School’s Destination Imagination team thought their season was done, after falling short of first place at the state competition, coming in third. But when the first place winner notified the Destination Imagination organization that they would be unable to make the trip to the Global competition in Tennessee in May, Mason was chosen to be the runner up, based on their performance both at state and regional competitions.
No matter how they got here, they’re raring to grasp this opportunity.
“It’s a DI-ers dream,” said student Camilla Alton of Mason. “It what every kid who is in DI wants.”
The team took on the “In Plain Sight” challenge, where they had to create a skit presentation around the concept of camouflage. In their skit, a sharpei dreams that she has found herself in the African savannah, and is bullied for her lack of camouflage.
“I like the creativity,” said team member Alexis Morales of Mason. “We have the freedom to come up with our own stuff.”
The Mason DI team is made up of Tomas Ziemiecki, Camilla Alton, Abigail Alton, Alexis Morales, Rosalie Crosby, Allden Black and Edie Leak.
The team is fundraising $10,000 to get the team to Globals. You can contribute by donating at www.gofundme.com/dcxqwtpw. The team will be holding a yard sale on May 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at Mason Elementary, and a Mother’s Day event where participants can have a portrait taken with their mother on May 8, also at the school.
The team members will also be selling candy bars and collecting donations at the monthly Mason Community Supper.
