After nearly two decades in the Christian music scene, Big Daddy Weave has embraced a newfound following with their latest release, “Beautiful Offerings.” The group is coming to Keene on April 29 to play a fundraiser show for New Ipswich’s Hope Fellowship Church, which is in the process of building a new facility to house its growing congregation. We caught up with frontman Mike Weaver in advance of the show.
You’ve been around a while now — seasoned vets of the music scene. How do you keep your music relevant after 15+ years?
“We decided this last year, our audience is a group of people who realized they were broken if you have a heart for people who are hurting you’re never going to lack an audience. Jesus even said this. I love him, Jesus is the man.”
How often is your faith tested, and is that a source of songwriting inspiration?
“About every 15 minutes you know. Life is just sometime rough, were in a different place every day, we’re facing all sorts of challenges.
“For a good portion of time, I just hated my own guts. I couldn’t live up to my own standards for myself.
“There was this day when I just had an encounter with God in my garage. He said you need to see yourself the way I see you, and I’m crazy about you! And that changed everything.”
What can people expect if they come out to your show?
“The junk that people are carrying around with them, they can put it aside for a little while or maybe even leave it behind.”
Big Daddy Weave plays at the Colonial Theatre in Keene on April 29 with Jordan Feliz and Plumb. Tickets are on sale now and nearly sold out. For tickets or more information, visit www.hfcnh.com.
