Seventy-five hardy souls braved the unusually seasonable weather on Saturday morning to race in the fourth annual ConVal track and field fundraiser 5K. Last year’s proceeds helped buy a sturdy, walled pop-up tent for the team to rally under at meets; the structure came in quite handy on Saturday, as the runners were forced out into a downpour.
The weather created some slow times, but it was ultimately a successful race, both as a fundraiser and as a tuneup for the ConVal track team, who competed against each other and the multitude of civilians who raced or walked that day.
No. 1 overall was Ryan Lyesiuk of Gardner, Massachusetts, who clocked in at 18.44.21. Shane Raymond of Peterborough seemed to have the No. 2 spot locked up — that is, before ConVal sprinter Dalton Coyne turned on the home stretch jets and passed him for the second position.
Kristen Ramey of Peterborough was the first female finisher, placing 7th at 19.37.71. ConVal track star Clare Veverka was just behind her in 8th.
Some walkers may not appear on the final results list. We’re not sure who registered as “Donald Trump,” but whoever he or she was, “Trump” finished safely behind the pack at 40th overall.
