ConVal is a good school district that presents opportunities for graduates to go on to great things. It’s not perfect, but then again no public or private institution is. The faculty and staff keep trying to improve and make the schools a better place to learn. You wouldn’t know it by reading this paper.
Over the past few years, there’s been a near-constant stream of positive coverage of charter schools, Education Freedom Accounts, home and private school students. The reporters at this paper seemingly never miss a meeting of local ConVal withdrawal committees, and when warrant articles about withdrawal failed to pass, they wrote pieces featuring commentary from committee members only.
The Ledger-Transcript’s anti-public education/anti-ConVal stance is well-established at this point. The editors and writers at the paper hit a new benchmark with the July 3 edition, however. The top of the fold was an article about the state Supreme Court ruling in favor of expanded public education funding. The article, written by someone from the Concord Monitor, did contain statements from public education funding advocates. But there was no commentary from local school district representatives. An odd thing, considering the education funding lawsuit was ConVal vs. the State of New Hampshire. The Ledger-Transcript couldn’t even be bothered to reach out to school officials for their insights on winning the lawsuit and what it would mean for the students. Shame on them.
