The Dublin Community Center has expressed an interest in helping to reform the town’s Recreation Committee.
Representatives from the Community Center approached the Select Board Monday to discuss the possibility of heading a new Recreation Committee for the town and also to talk about a $9,000 petition warrant article to help fund the center.
“The Recreation Committee really needs a leader,” said Selectman Sturdy Thomas. “We have people who are interested in helping, but they don’t want to run it.”
Community Center Director Bridget McFall told the Selectmen that she would want to speak to some former members of the committee and see what the budget is like before accepting any commitments. The center may establish a planning committee to look at the viability of fostering the committee.
The board also spoke with the Cemetery Committee, who were requesting that the board change the amount in a warrant article to build a 16-foot by 20-foot maintenance building from $16,800 to $26,000.
Present cost estimates for the building include $5,800 for foundation work, $19,000 for the building, and $1,200 for a generator, totaling $26,000. The building would be used to store equipment at the cemetery.
The board opted to wait to make a decision until a future date, as Select Board chair Walt Snitko wanted to see where the town’s entire budget came in.
“Twenty six thousand dollars won’t break the budget, but all money counts,” said Snitko. “We have warrant articles for a broadband study, Town Hall painting, and more; at some point we have to make some decisions.”
