Buy a Happy Meal and put a smile on a police officer’s face.

Tomorrow, McDonald’s restaurants across the state will be donating a portion of their sales from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police, with a goal of raising $50,000.

During those hours, a local area police officer and cruiser will be on site at each McDonald’s in the state, meeting and greeting families and providing educational tips and information.

The money raised will be used to provide law enforcement training and development.

In addition to fundraising the event is also recognizing multiple police officers from across the state for their community involvement and everyday heroism, including officers from Wilton and Antrim.

McDonald’s is recognizing Officer John Giffin of the Antrim Police Department and Officer Kristopher Wolf for heroic actions taken in the line of duty.

In February, Wolf was dispatched to the Souhegan River for a report of a woman who had been walking her dog along a cliff at the edge of the river when the dog slipped and fell, pulling them both over the edge.

When Wolf arrived at the scene, the woman was submerged int the river, holding her dog and clinging to the face of the cliff. Before the fire department could arrive and set up rescue equipemnt, the woman began to succumb to hypothermia. Wolf formed a human chain with a Milford Police officer and a member of the fire department to pull the woman to safety, before returning to the water to fetch her dog. Both the woman and the dog survived.

Giffin was awarded the department’s Gallantry Star Medal for a situation where he was at the forefront in Deering, where Giffin, as part of a multi-town effort to serve a warrant against an individual that posed a threat to law enforcement throughout his aprehension.

Giffin is also recognized for his community involvement, as a longtime member of the Antrim Zoning Board, and as a part-time officer in Bennington and Francestown.

Recognized for “Community Involvement” is Officer William Hickerson III of the Wilton Police Department.

McDonald’s is recognizing Hickerson for his community involvement as a volunteer firefighter and as the officer within the department that serves as a liasion with the town’s schools. Hickerson works with staff to address issues with students and helps students with their senior projects and teaches drug and alcohol awareness classes to students and provides active shooter training to staff. He visits the schools every day and often has lunch with the students of the elementary school.
