Cunningham Pond in Peterborough is scheduled to reopen on June 1 for visitors who make advance reservations. The pond closed on May 4 due to large crowds and a report of vandalism.
Peterborough residents and out-of-towners who had already purchased a 2020 beach pass will be able to reserve a visit in one of two time slots every day, either 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., or 2:45 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to new guidance from the townโs Recreation Department. The Department will initially take reservations from June 1 through the 14th, and reservations must be made by 4 p.m. the previous day, although residents can arrive and depart anytime within their reserved slot. Ten vehicles will be allowed at the pond per time slot for the initial two week trial period, according to an announcement on the townโs webpage. Town employees will not be checking the number of people in each vehicle, and no vans, buses, or RVs will be permitted. Anybody living nearby can walk in on foot, and no drop-offs will be permitted.
Beach stickers are not necessary this summer, and no additional summer passes are available for non-residents at this time.
Reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis, and an additional week of reservations will open every Monday starting June 8. Visitย http://www.peterboroughrec.com/ย for the Recreation Cunningham Pond Reservation page. The reservation system will go live on Thursday, May 28ย at 8:30 a.m.
