A driver who drifted off Route 101 in Peterborough and into a tree Sunday afternoon was later airlifted to be treated for life-threatening injuries.
Police Chief Scott Guinard said Daniel Murphy, 48, of Gilsum was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup westbound on Route 101 near Bass Road when, according to eyewitnesses, the Dodge drifted off the road, over the embankment and struck a tree around 2:47 p.m.
Guinard said Murphy was โconscious, but not alertโ inside the vehicle when an officer responded. There were no passengers in the Dodge.
Murphy was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital by ambulance and was later airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
โAs of last evening, his injuries were potentially life-threatening,โ said Guinard, and he had not received any updates on the manโs condition by Monday morning.
Murphyโs Dodge incurred substantial damage. Guinard said that speed was not a factor in the accident, and the department was working to determine the cause of the accident.
