An 83-year-old man was airlifted from the scene of a Route 101 accident on Tuesday.
At about 10:20 a.m., Merle Robinson, 83, of New Ipswich, was driving north on Route 31, towards Wilton, when he drifted across the centerline shortly before the town line, according to Temple-Greenville Police Chief Jim McTague. His 1993 Dodge Dynasty struck an oncoming 2007 Toyota Rav driven by Nancy Rankin, 63, of Wilton.
Police do not have an official cause of the accident, said McTague, but it was possibly caused by Robinson experiencing a medical issue, possibly a seizure.
Robinson was breathing and conscious when crews arrived on the scene, said McTague. Heย was transported by ambulance to Monadnock Water in Wilton, which was used as a landing zone for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team helicopter. He was transported him to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, for treatment.ย
Rankin sustained only minor injuries and was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital for treatment.
Both cars were towed from the scene. Route 31 was closed for about an hour and a half while the cars were removed.
