Senior Mark Josselyn broke the school record in the weight throw for the second time in 24 hours on Saturday, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University men’s track & field team at the RCC Tigers All Comers Invitational, hosted by Roxbury CC.
Josselyn eclipsed his own school record – which he had set just the day before at St. Thomas Aquinas – with a heave of 15.14 meters. The throw was good enough for second place and moved him to fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference in the event. Josselyn was followed by junior Peter Murray in third (13.82m) and freshman Domenic Branco in fourth (13.26m), as the Ravens took three of the top five spots in the event. Murray moved to 10th in the NE10, while Branco is now 11th in the league.
Branco and Murray both featured in the shot put as well, where the Ravens swept the top five positions. Branco picked up the win this time, with a throw of 12.62 meters. He was followed by senior Alex Bonitto in second (11.94m), Murray in third (11.86m), sophomore Nicholas Marinuzzi in fourth (11.74m) and senior Kevin Rivera in fifth (11.63m).
Franklin Pierce put together a similar performance in the high jump, sweeping the top four positions. Sophomore Robert Boardman moved into a tie for sixth in the NE10 in the event by clearing 1.85 meters to win the event. He was followed by freshman Trevor Guay in second (1.80m), freshman David Testa in third (1.70m) and senior Mark Choiniere in fourth (1.55m). Guay’s mark was also good enough to tie for 11th in the NE10.
Guay also finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday, with a time of 9.22 seconds. Senior Cody Steed rounded out FPU’s top-five field finishes by taking fifth in the long jump, with a leap of 6.01 meters.
The rest of Franklin Pierce’s successes in Boston came out on the track, highlighted by junior Nicholas Jacques’ run in the 400 meters. He finished third, with a time of 50.63 seconds, which is good for eighth in the NE10 on the year.
Elsewhere, three Ravens placed in the top five of the 800 meters: junior Joshua Ercolini in second (1:59.26), freshman Walker John in fourth (2:00.25) and junior Adam Bryson in fifth (2:00.28). Meanwhile, senior B.J. Smith finished third in the mile (4:28.20) and freshman Seth Davis took fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.68).
For the women, freshman Katey Comstock established a new school record in the shot put on Saturday.
Comstock was good enough to win the shot put on Saturday, with her heave of 11.80 meters breaking the school record and being enough to move her into ninth place in the Northeast-10 Conference on the year. She led a Franklin Pierce shot put group which took four of the top five positions in the event. Freshman Jen Iozzi took third (11.00m), sophomore Kendra Covington was fourth (10.92m) and freshman Savannah Drowne finished fifth (10.51m).
Many of the same faces were a part of a similar performance by the Ravens in the weight throw, as they took four of the top five spots there as well. This time, senior Kendra Plant picked up the victory, with a throw of 13.68 meters. She was followed by Iozzi in third (11.46m), Drowne in fourth (10.72m) and Covington in fifth (10.15m).

She posted a mark of 5.08 meters to win the long jump, and also put together a triple jump of 11.00 meters to win there, as well. In the long jump, she was followed by senior Samantha Toscano , who took second with a leap of 4.88 meters.
Out on the track, freshman Ayodele Ouhuru was one of two Ravens to qualify for the final in the 60-meter dash. She would finish third, with a time of 8.00 seconds, which was good enough to move her into a tie for 11th in the NE10. Senior Nicole Galewski followed in fifth place, with a time of 8.14 seconds. Elsewhere on the track, junior Alexa Cassara took fourth in the 400 meters (1:03.29), while freshman Eileen Savinelli placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.24).
Two other Ravens posted top-five finishes in field events. Senior Shannon Coffey was the only competitor in the pole vault and cleared 2.15 meters to finish first, while freshman Olivia Mabbett placed fourth in the high jump, by clearing 1.45 meters.
The Ravens return to action on Sunday, Nov. 22, when they travel back to Boston for the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.
