The 12th annual New England Winter Blues Festival rolls into the Town House in Peterborough Friday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m.
The festival features Luther “Guitar Jr.” Johnson, who spent several years as an Antrim resident. He was a staple at the blues establishment The Rynborn and helped bring fellow Chicago blues musicians to play there.
Before his time in New Hampshire, Johnson spent the beginning of his career in Chicago, which is where he got his big break by joining Muddy Waters’ band. He toured internationally with Waters before settling down in Antrim. Johnson brings with him the award-winning vocalist and harmonica player Curtis Salgado. The inspiration behind John Belushi’s “The Blues Brothers,” Salgado became friends with Belushi during the filming of “Animal House” in the early 1970s. Salgado was also the lead singer of the group Santana during the 1990s.
Boston native, singer and guitarist Sonya Rae Taylor, along with The Wicked Lo-Down, which was formed by Nick David, formerly of Mr. Nickand the Dirty Tricks, and guitarist Paul Size of The Red Devils will also perform.
Tickets range from $34 to $59. For information on upcoming shows or to purchase tickets, visitpeterboroughconcertseries.com or visit the Peterborough Toadstool Music Department.
