After voters approved funds at District Meeting, the School Board awarded the next portion of the high school roof resurfacing to Prime Roofing of New Ipswich.
During its meeting Tuesday, the board approved using $130,380 from the capital reserve account to start the next portion of the roof repair.ย
During District Meeting, district voters approved adding $60,000 to the building and equipment capital reserve. A portion of those funds are also set to be used to repave the high school parking lot this year.ย
The cost will cover two sections of new roof, one over the industrial arts and cafeteria, which is about 7,050 square feet, and the other over the art and family and consumer science rooms, or 6,196 square feet. These sections of roof are considered to have a remaining life span of under five years.
According to Prime Roofingโs quote, the work will include removing the existing roof system down to the decks, installing new insulation and resurfacing, with a 15-year warranty.
School Board member Alex LoVermeย questioned whether the separate sections of the roof had been put out to bid. Lise Tucker, the districtโs business administrator, informed the board that the project, as a whole, had been put out to bid in 2016, and Prime Roofing had been selected at that time, and since, the district has been working with them on a five-phase management plan to replace the roof in sections. She did not advise attempting to re-bid individual sections, both because Prime Roofing had been the low bid at the time, and because they were familiar with the roof and its issues.
