A Washington, New Hampshire man was killed after his station wagon veered off the road and slammed into a tree on Monday morning along Route 202 in Antrim near Contoocook Valley Avenue.
Norman Bresett, 79, was headed north toward Hillsborough on the heavily-used road when for no apparent reason he swerved off the road and crashed into a tree.
Antrim Police Chief Scott Lester said officers were dispatched to the scene around 11:45 a.m. on Monday morning.
Lester said the man was unresponsive when the first officer arrived on scene. Bresett was pulled from a gold 2007 Subaru station wagon and was given CPR until medical personnel arrived and transported him to the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough. Bresett was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Lester said on Monday afternoon around 4 p.m. that police are still investigating why the station wagon veered off the road in the first place. He said a person who witnessed the crash reported there was no indication that anything was wrong moments before the accident occurred. Lester said he didn’t think speed or weather conditions played a role in the crash. He said police are waiting for medical reports, which could indicate if a medical emergency caused the accident.
Lester said nobody else was involved in the accident.
