Cotton not Maidment

The Hillsborough County treasurer is responsible for the integrity of $150 million in property tax revenue. About $45 million funds nursing-home care, $36 million funds the county nursing home’s operations, $23 million funds the Valley Street jail’s operations, and $15 million funds American Rescue Plan Act Projects. Smaller amounts pay for the county attorney, sheriff, Registry of Deeds, and computer information systems.
Bev Cotton’s decades of training and career of increasing financial responsibility have prepared her for this job. She has reconciled income and expenses thousands of times. She enjoys making sure that every penny spent is accounted for clearly. She has advanced education in forensic accounting and fraud detection. Reconciling accounts is tedious work. It’s not for everybody. It’s only for those of us who enjoy the detective work of examining where and how accounting errors occur.
Bev serves as an elected Trustee of the Trust Funds in Weare. She is hardworking, honest, disciplined, and accurate.
On the other hand, Chris Maidment’s website shows he is interested in managing Hillsborough County’s $150 million but has not indicated that he has even looked at it. He has also not mentioned that he belongs to the “free state” movement that, if elected, will wreak havoc.
Please join me in voting for Bev Cotton for Hillsborough County Treasurer on Nov. 3. She will be an exemplary steward of our county’s finances.
