A Massachusetts man faces multiple charges after allegedly stalking a woman, violating a protection order, and leading police on a foot chase Saturday.
Craig Lagasse, 44, of Winchendon, Massachusetts, was charged with three counts of violation of a protection order and one count of stalking.
According to Jaffrey police, a woman called authorities at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday to report that Lagasse was following her. She stated he followed her to Dollar General, then to Belletetes, and back to Dollar General, where he attempted to speak with her.
Jaffrey police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert and obtained an arrest warrant. At 6:52 p.m., Peterborough police located Lagasse’s vehicle at Agway, but he fled on foot.
Officers from Jaffrey, Dublin, and Greenfield assisted in the search. Police eventually reached Lagasse by cellphone and convinced him to surrender. He turned himself in at the Jaffrey Dollar General and was processed at the Jaffrey Police Department.
Peterborough police additionally charged Lagasse with operating as a habitual offender and resisting arrest.
Lagasse was also charged in connection with a July 3 incident. Police said Lagasse fled from officers trying to conduct a traffic stop on River Street, driving across the Town Office lawn at 10 mph before accelerating down School Street at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Charges from that incident include disobeying an officer, reckless operation, and operating as a certified habitual offender.
Lagasse was held without bail at the Cheshire County House of Corrections pending a Monday arraignment.
Other weekend arrests
- Jared Kot, 38, of Jaffrey, was arrested Saturday at 1:20 p.m. on charges of domestic violence and criminal trespass. Police responded to a Turnpike Road residence after a woman reported Kot remained overnight without permission and pushed past her into the apartment. Officers located Kot at the Legion ball field. He was released on personal recognizance bail, provided transportation to a shelter in Keene, and assigned an Aug. 25 court date in 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey.
- Breton Flagg, 37, of Bennington, was arrested Saturday at 12:57 a.m. on a charge of negligent driving following a traffic stop for a fog-line violation. His vehicle was towed to the Jaffrey Police Department pending a search warrant.
