The Woodbound Road Bridge in Jaffrey is among seven properties newly added to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places, according to the N.H. Division of Historical Resources.
Built around 1914, the bridge carries Woodbound Road over Mill Brook and features a mortared ashlar ring, cobblestone walls and rustic parapets. Officials said the bridge reflects the influence of the Good Roads Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which promoted roadway and bridge improvements to support economic growth and expand public access to rural recreation and conservation areas.
The bridge was one of seven historic properties across the state recently added to the register by the State Historical Resources Council.
Other properties recognized include the Cheever School in Dorchester, the Olive G. Pettis Memorial Library in Goshen, Little River Chapel in North Hampton, the Isaac Stafford House in Strafford, Rye Congregational Church and Purling Beck Grange Hall in Washington.
The Olive G. Pettis Memorial Library, Little River Chapel and Isaac Stafford House were also determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
The New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places recognizes properties significant to the stateโs history, architecture, archaeology and culture. Listing does not place restrictions on private property owners.
