Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance Chief William “Bill” Johnson has been charged with two counts of stalking, according to Jaffrey police.
Johnson, 47, of Jaffrey, voluntarily came to the Jaffrey Police Station after a warrant was issued for his arrest, Police Chief Todd Muilenberg said. He was booked and released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 23 in 8th Circuit Court, Jaffrey.
Muilenberg declined to comment further on the allegations, citing an active investigation.
Johnson was hired as chief of the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance in the summer of 2024.
A bail order filed in Circuit Court requires Johnson to have no access to firearms or ammunition, to refrain from using alcohol or narcotics, and to have no contact with two individuals, one of whom is an employee of the ambulance service.
On Thursday, one of those individuals filed for a temporary restraining order against Johnson. Complying with the order is included in Johnson’s bail conditions.
In the request for the restraining order, Johnson’s alleged victim details multiple instances in which Johnson allegedly followed him, drove past his house, and attempted to intimidate him. The petitioner wrote that he does not personally know Johnson and has never spoken to him, but is a “friend of a friend.”
The narrative alleges that on Nov. 18, Johnson drove slowly by the person’s house, “smirking and waving,” and that has been an ongoing issue for the past month.
Other instances in the petition included:
On Oct. 17, Johnson allegedly followed the man through a drive-through. When the man waited to let Johnson leave the plaza first, Johnson drove slowly by, staring at him.
On Oct. 21, after the two passed each other on the road, Johnson allegedly made an abrupt stop and U-turn to follow the man’s car.
On Nov. 12, the man reported that while he was in the Peterborough Plaza, Johnson drove by, then returned and pulled into the plaza shortly afterward.
On Nov. 15, Johnson allegedly followed the man from the ambulance bay to downtown Jaffrey and onto Peterborough Street until the man turned into Dollar General. Later, on his way home, the man reported seeing Johnson’s vehicle near his house, heading back toward Peterborough Street.
Johnson is also scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 8 regarding the restraining order.
