The Elm Street Bridge will be closed to all traffic beginning April 20 for a rehabilitation project expected to last about eight weeks, weather permitting, town officials said.
The project includes replacing drainage infrastructure, reconstructing portions of the bridge and deck, installing new concrete components, repaving the roadway and making improvements to sidewalks, curbing and approach areas. Additional work will address bridge rails, joint sealing, utility elements and erosion control.
Officials said the repairs are necessary to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the bridge.
Detours and traffic control measures will be in place during the closure. Residents and commuters are advised to plan for extra travel time.
