The Dublin School Board of Trustees has named Sam Bicknell its next head of school, effective July 1, 2026.
Bicknell currently serves as dean of students at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., where he has worked for 16 years as a Spanish teacher, director of sustainability, director of student activities, residential head, coach and adviser.
The school said Bicknell stood out during the search for his collaborative leadership, vision and alignment with Dublin’s mission and motto, “Truth and Courage.”
He will succeed Brad Bates, who is stepping down after 18 years as head of school.
Bicknell holds degrees from Union College, Middlebury College and Vanderbilt University. He will move to Dublin with his wife, Ellie, their three children and the family dog, Osa.
