A Massachusetts man was rescued Sunday after being injured while hiking on Mount Monadnock, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Trevor Powell, 26, of Brighton, slipped on icy rocks along the Dublin Trail shortly after 4:15 p.m., suffering head and shoulder injuries. A hiking companion called for help.

Conservation officers, state park staff and volunteers from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team responded and reached Powell before assisting him about two miles down steep, icy terrain to the trailhead. The rescue concluded around 8:10 p.m.

Powell declined ambulance transport and chose to seek medical care on his own, officials said.

Fish and Game officials reminded hikers that winter conditions can persist on mountain summits despite warmer weather and encouraged preparation, including carrying proper gear and considering a Hike Safe card.
