The New Ipswich Historical Society will hostย a talk on โ€œIce Harvesting in New Englandโ€ย at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the New Ipswich Library. The illustrated talk by Jane Hennedy examines a once-common industry, using examples from regional collections to explore food preservation before iceboxes, seasonal opportunities for โ€œcold cashโ€ through the ice trade, Boston ice merchant Frederic Tudor, known as the Ice King, and the industryโ€™s decline with the advent of electrical refrigeration.

Hennedy is a museum professional with more than 25 years of experience and serves as site manager for two 18th-century farms in Rhode Island owned by Historic New England. Light refreshments will be served.

A snow date is set for 2 p.m. March 7.
