Hancock Conversations on Race hosted its eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 19, at Reynolds Hall, the parish hall of All Saints Church in Peterborough.
The program featured Dr. Amilcar Shabazz and Tom Weiner, co-authors of “In Defiance: 20 Abolitionists You Were Never Taught in High School.” Their presentation, “The Fierce Urgency of Now,” reflected on the legacy of King’s work and its relevance today.
Local singer-songwriter Wendy Keith provided music, and artwork was contributed by children from the Hancock, Greenfield, Dublin and Peterborough elementary schools.
Volunteers from Hancock Conversations on Race, the Peterborough Plus Unit of the League of Women Voters, Toadstool Bookshop, and All Saints Church helped at the event.
