The Peterborough Town Library has announced its 2026 Natural NH program series, a lineup of four free public programs focused on environmental conservation, wildlife and native landscaping.

The series, sponsored and coordinated by community donors, begins Thursday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by Jack Savage, president of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. Titled โNew Hampshire Forests โ Past, Present and Future: 125 Years of Protecting NH Landscapes and Landmarks,โ the talk will examine the Forest Societyโs role in conserving iconic sites such as Mount Monadnock and the White Mountain National Forest, as well as current conservation challenges.

On Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m., Matt Tarr, extension professor and state specialist in wildlife habitat at the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, will present โLandscaping for Wildlife.โ The program will explore how different species select habitat throughout the year and how residential landscapes can better support pollinators, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

The March program, โFrom Lawn to Native Meadow: Lessons Learned,โ will be held Thursday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. Sponsors of the series, Mary and Dewey Clark, will share their experience converting lawn space into native meadow habitat. The Clarks are Forest Society land stewards in New Hampshire and longtime volunteer trail workers on the Appalachian Trail. Free native wildflower seeds will be available to attendees.
The series concludes Thursday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by Aaron Abitz and Brittany Kavanaugh of Fassett Farm Nursery in Jaffrey. The talk will focus on factors that influence the success or failure of native landscaping projects in the region. A free native plant door prize drawing will be offered.
Steve Roberge, UNH Extension state specialist for forest resources, will moderate all four programs.
The Natural NH series is free and open to the public. Parking at the library is limited, and attendees are encouraged to use public parking areas in downtown Peterborough.
