Letter: Women’s Club helps in our communities
Has anyone seen one of the many versions of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles
Dickens this year? There was a wonderful piece about the story by L. Phillips Runyon
III in the Monadnock Ledger Transcript on Dec. 16, in which he talks about how it
came to be written in 1843, how it was an instant success, how it has never been out of
print, and how relevant it remains today. “To an alarming extent, things haven’t changed
significantly for many of us.โ
Here in our communities, you can help by supporting the Wilton Lyndeborough
Women’s Club. Our Christmas Giving Tree asks members of the community to purchase
gifts (mostly clothes) requested for children from low-income families. In addition, we
give scholarships to graduating high school seniors, partner with Meals on Wheels,
assist families in crisis, and do whatever else comes up during the year to support our
neighbors.
For more information, see our Facebook page or our website, WLWCNH.org, or
call our president, Rachael Ray, 254-213-8123. New members are always welcome. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends. And donations are always gratefully accepted and effectively used.
