For the upcoming year, Bennington’s tax rate has been set at $20.67 per $1,000 of value, a decrease of $1.80 from the current year’s rate of $22.47.
The decrease is due to reductions in the municipal and local education rates. For the current year, the municipal rate was set at $7.14 per $1,000 of value. For the coming year, it has dropped to $6.66, a decrease of 6.7%. The local education valuation for the current year was set for $13.40 per $1,000; there has been an 11.4% reduction to $11.87 per $1,000 of value.
Both county and state education rates increased. For the current year, the county rate was set at $0.87 per $1,000 of value; the newly assessed valuation for the coming year has it set at $0.96, a 10.3% increase.
The state education tax rate increased 11.3%; the rate went from $1.06 to $1.18 per $1,000 of value.
Due to the tax rate decrease, provided owners haven’t made any major changes to their properties, there should be a decrease in this year’s tax bill. Residents of Bennington should expect to see their tax bills Dec. 15.
