Last Saturday’s weekly pro-democracy vigil at the Peterborough stoplights drew about 70 participants, many showing support for New Hampshire Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander. The gathering echoed a similar rally held in Concord earlier in the week.

Organizers said the theme centered on a recent video released by Goodlander and five other members of Congress who have previously served in the military or intelligence community. In the video, the group emphasized that service members are obligated to refuse orders that are clearly illegal under military code or the U.S. Constitution. The message concluded with the historical phrase “Don’t give up the ship,” attributed to a naval commander during the War of 1812.

Some participants held signs featuring the six lawmakers with the caption “Profiles in Courage.”

The pro-democracy vigil takes place every Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Peterborough.
