Greenville’s tax rate has been set this year at $16.72 per $1,000 of assessed value, which is a penny less than the 2024 rate.

The municipal rate this year is set at $7.29, which is a 5 cent increase from the previous year.

The county rate was 81 cents in 2024, and jumped to $1.03 for 2025.

The state education rate also increased, though by a smaller amount, rising a total of 2 cents, from $1.07 in 2024 to $1.09.

Increases were offset this year by a drop in the local school rate, which went from $7.61 in 2024 to $7.31 in 2025, or a 30 cent drop. The Mascenic School District is operating under a default budget this year, set at $21.96 million, which was about $360,000 below the district’s originally proposed budget.

A home valued at $400,000 would have paid $6,692 in 2024, compared to $6,688 this coming year, for a home of the same value.

Tax bills were mailed in Greenville on Nov. 26, and taxes are due by Dec. 30.
