One eerie October night, Nathaniel’s parents left him home alone, they were out on a date. Nathaniel had only one job to do, while his parents were away, which was to do the dishes. Nathaniel was not happy about this, and did not want to do the dishes. See, he hated the faucet, it always made these nasty noises. The sound of wrenching and grinding metal, that makes one quiver and quake.

He seemed to be the only one bothered by the awful noise, as his family brushed off his concerns as he was trying to avoid doing his portion of the chores.  You’d think at 13 years old, that he wouldn’t find a noisy faucet offputting or scary, but Nathaniel was terrified. As he stood there, watching the faucet so intently, debating whether or not to leave dishes for his mother, and accept the consequences, or to try to do as asked and push through. He decided to just do it. He thought, he better not disappoint his parents. Nathaniel reaches towards the faucet, his hand trembling, as he prepared himself for the sound.  He slowly grasped the handle, and turned it. No noise at all, and he’s taken back. No sound at all!  He mumbled to himself that all of his worry was for nothing and he stepped back. Seconds passed before he went back to the dishes and the faucet.  Nathaniel quickly went to work and finished the dishes in record time.

Proud of himself and questioning if he had ever heard anything at all, he slowly tried to walk away, content with his success.  All of a sudden a loud CCCCRRREEEEAAAAAAKKKKKKK, followed by a loud BANG, came from the sink, Nathaniel jumped back in terror, his heart raced.  He’d finished the dishes, no one was touching the faucet, he approached again, confused.  All of a sudden, that is when he saw it. A pair of eyes stared back at him from the drain.  A loud clinking sound and a hollow laugh filled the room.  What had he just seen? Is he imagining this? Quickly closing himself in his room he eagerly awaits his parents return.

Startled awake by his mother’s voice.  “MOM, you would never…”, “SHHHH” she replied calmly, “I knew this day would happen eventually, tomorrow your father and I will formally introduce you two.”
