Since 1991, Mountain Shadows School in Dublin has devoted much of December to producing the annual Merry Shadows December Celebration, including this year’s recent event.
Every student in the school, preschool through eighth grade, takes part in the theater production at the Peterborough Players. Alumni return to watch the show, which is a highlight of the school calendar, every year.
The celebration includes a play that originated in the Christmas Revels play produced annually by the Langstaffs of Cambridge, Mass. The children’s version, written by Susan Cooper, was shared with Mountain Shadows by the Paideia School in Atlanta. Merry Shadows is a celebration of the winter solstice with traditional and ritual dances, carols, processionals and drama.
