Governor Chris Sununu and the state’s Executive Council approved two special elections to fill empty seats in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, including a seat that represents Dublin and Jaffrey.

The elections have been called to fill the seat of Doug Ley, a Democrat who served Cheshire District 9, which includes Dublin, Jaffrey, Roxbury and Harrisville and David J. Danielson, a Republican representing Hillsborough District 7, which represents Bedford. Both passed away earlier this year.

The governor and the Executive Council approved both elections at their meeting held June 30, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

Filing for the position can be done at the candidates’ local town clerk offices, on July 6 only. Candidates can also file at the Secretary of State’s Office from July 6 through July 9 at 4:30 p.m.

If there is more than one candidate filed for either political party, the towns in that district are scheduled to hold a primary election on Sept. 7, and the general election will be held on Oct. 26.

However, if only one person from each political party files for the position, there will be no primary held, and the general election will proceed on Sept. 7.

Dublin Town Moderator Timothy Clark said he will be requesting the use of the Dublin Town Hall for the elections, as is traditional for ballot voting in town, but the site had not been finalized on Friday.

“We have had good success there with anti-pandemic measures and separation,” Clark said.

Recent elections in Jaffrey have been held at the Conant High School, but a final decision on the polling location has not yet been made in Jaffrey, either, Moderator Marc Tieger said.
