On Tuesday evening, a vehicle on Route 202 in Antrim struck a tree and traveled about 50 feet after leaving the roadway.

According to a release from Antrim Fire & Ambulance, at about 5:35 p.m., fire and police officers were dispatched to a reported crash on Route 202 near Milk Road. The driver had been able to exit the car on their own, with assistance form a passerby, and was the only occupant of the vehicle. Police declined to identify the driver on Wednesday morning. The vehicle, a 2017 Ford Explorer, sustained heavy front-end damage.

According to the release, the driver was assessed by ambulance personnel, and had suffered some abrasions, but refused to be taken to the hospital for further treatment.

During the response, the southbound lane of traffic was stopped. According to the release, one one occasion, a driver who was passing the scene at the back of the line of traffic pulled out of the line to go around the accident at a high rate of speed, endangering response personnel.

“We want to emphasize that when you come across first-responders working on the roadway at an accident scene to please slow down, move over, and obey personnel that are directing traffic,” the release states.
