Crashes reported following season’s first major storm

The first major storm of the season hit the Monadnock region over the weekend, dumping anywhere from six inches to more than a foot from town to town, and causing crashes due to slippery roads.

On Sunday in Jaffrey, at about 5:12 p.m., police responded to Prescott Road for a report of a vehicle that had gone off the road and hit a tree. Police spoke with the juvenile from New Ipswich who was driving the vehicle, who reported that he lost control of his 2005 Chevrolet pickup while coming down a hill, veering off the road and striking the pole. The vehicle had minor damage to the front bumper and left turn signal. The telephone pole had no visible damage.

The driver reported he was not injured. The vehicle was fully operational and able to leave the scene.

Also on Sunday, at about 5:45 p.m., Jaffrey police received a call regarding a stuck vehicle on Fitzgerald Drive. Police responded and found a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by a juvenile from Jaffrey. Police assisted the driver in getting back on the road, and she was able to drive the vehicle from the scene.

Later that evening, at 7:35 p.m., Jaffrey police received a report from the Jaffrey Fire Department that a vehicle was off the road and stuck in a snowbank on River Street, near Adams Street. Police found a 2023 Hyundai Tucson, driven by April Heather, 34, of Sharon, stuck in the snow. Heather reported that she was not injured. The vehicle was towed from the snowbank with assistance from Gauthier’s Auto. The vehicle was operable, and Heather was able to drive from the scene.

in Wilton, there was one call for a vehicle off the road during the storm. On Sunday, at about noon, police responded to a report of a vehicle off the road on Burns Hill Road, according to Wilton Police Lt. John Frechette. The driver was able to be assisted back onto the road and drive from the scene, with no injuries or damage to the vehicle.
