ConVal’s William Simard won the state championship in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 29.7 seconds, and Ross Stephens broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash to win the state title in 49.21 seconds during the Division 2 state championship meet Sunday at Sanborn High School.

The ConVal boys' team finished in fourth place with 65 points. Simard also finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 9:47.20, and Stephens finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.33 seconds. Kendrick Edwards broke his school record in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet, 3-inches and tied his school record in the 100-meter dash, running 10.84 seconds and finishing fourth.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Edwards, Griffin Schultz, Sam Davis and Stephens finished second in a school-record time of 3:27.28. The 4x100-meter relay team of Elliot Featherstone, Edwards, Davis and Wetu Selby finished in second place in 43.63 seconds.

Morly Johnson was fourth in shot put with a distance of 44-feet, 1.75-inches and sixth in discus with a throw of 119-feet, 10-inches. Maxx Telofski’s 44-feet, 11.75-inches in the shot put was good for fifth place.

Whitney Adair was the scorer for the girls’ team, finishing sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:30.08.

Several ConVal athletes achieved personal-best performances at the state meet. They included Featherstone’s 11.31-second 100-yard dash and 22.95-second 200-meter dash, Cadwallader’s 116-foot, 6-inch throw of the discus and the 4x800-meter relay team of Walter Stephens, Ethan Whitaker, Vinny Hollenbeck and Renzo Patterson finishing in a season-best 9:38.08.

For the girls, the 4x100-meter relay team of Adair, Callie Post, Hannah Deschenes and Larianna Trudel had a season-best time of 56.07 seconds, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Adair, Sara Mackie, Alia Dodge, and Amelie Davis had their season’s best performance in 4:50.83.
