Diana Batista held a grand reopening for Main Street Pastries in Greenville over the weekend, after a month of soft launch for the store.
Despite being a “reopening” this is the first time the store has been in Greenville. Originally opened on Main Street in Northborough, Mass., in 2018, and then moved down the street to Westborough when they outgrew their original shop. Batista closed the shop earlier this year while dealing with major health issues, including a heart attack. After recovery, when traveling through Greenville, she noticed an empty storefront – conveniently, on Main Street.
“It felt like a full circle,” Batista said.
Batista moved into the shop with her store – still named “Main Street Pastries” – on July 3 for a soft launch, and held her official opening over the weekend. She said the response has been enormous.
“Every day, we’ve almost sold out. Oh my goodness, I did not think it was going to be as busy as it is,” Batista said.
Batista has been baking professionally since she was a teenager. Her first job, at the age of 12, was in a grocery store bakery section, where she eventually worked her way to the manager position. As an adult, she became a hairdresser, but always did custom cakes as a side job, until eventually there was enough demand for her to open her own store.
She said her original store was a tiny shop that she quickly outgrew, and she moved into the much-larger space in Westborough. She said some of that clientele has followed her to Greenville, along with new customers. Her shop offers not just custom cakes, but breakfast items, brownies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes, mini-loaf breads including pumpkin, zucchini and banana; and classic and gourmet cupcakes and cookies, macarons, whoopie pies, trifles and cream puffs.
Selections of her treats are peanut- and tree-nut free, and gluten-free. She said she learned the importance of having allergen-free options when her first child was born with allergies.

“I had to get into gluten- and dairy-free,” Batista said. “I had to be careful with her at that time, and I was reinventing stuff and creating things. I like to be creative; that was my thing, and it was safe for my daughter.”
Among her services, Batista offers custom cakes, including customizing to accommodate allergies.
Batista said in deference to her health, she is slowly introducing more products to her lineup of goods, including more varieties of breads and eventually doughnuts, and currently operating on shortened hours with the intention to eventually be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day. Currently, the shop is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday through Monday, noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday. The shop is located at 50 Main St. in Greenville.
