A documentary on the American health care system is coming to a local big screen.
On Friday, June 30, at 7 p.m., Peterborough Community Theatre will host a free screening of “American Hospitals: Healing a Broken System.” The one-hour documentary explores the rising costs of health care in America and the shift from a service to a for-profit business model.
Dr. Ahmed Kutty of Peterborough, a former health care professional with 50 years of experience, said the documentary helps prove the health care system is failing millions of Americans everyday.
“Most hospitals not only survived but thrived,” said Kutty. “Doctors like me feel like our patients suffer. They can not afford the cost of procedures... it has become insurmountable over the years.”
After the showing, a panel consisting of documentary crew members and health care professionals from the New Hampshire Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program will host a question-and-answer session for attendees. The event is free, and donations from community members are accepted.
“American Hospitals” is the fourth part of a series produced by Richard Master, CEO of MCS Industries, in the Unfinished Business Foundation’s documentary series. Its previous three movies were “Fix It: Healthcare at the Tipping Point,” “Big Pharma: Market Failure” and “Big Money Agenda: Democracy on the Brink,” investigating issues related to America’s health care system and the fate of democracy.
