Rindge has launched a new citizen notifications mobile app, which will send out alerts for town events and updates during emergency situations such as storms or road closures.
Rindge Emergency Management launched the program with a table at Sunday’s Family Fest, where residents could learn more about and sign up for the alert system, called Rindge Alerts.
The app was developed in collaboration with GOGov, which specializes in providing software and apps to local governments, particularly mobile software. The Rindge Alerts app is a comprehensive alert system for town updates, including news, events, service alerts, emergency notifications, road closures, prolonged motor vehicle crashes, trees and wires down and fires, as will as requests for citizen assistance.
The app will be available for use by all town departments for notice of important town meetings, elections, public hearings, or town events and programs. Emergency alerts will supersede all other notifications, said Director of Life Safety Rickard Donovan.
So far, the program has only been used to send out a test alert.
“This is day one of launching it, so it’s a work in progress,” said Donovan during Family Fest. “But next week, we’ll be doing training with the town employees about how to use it and send out alerts about programs, meetings or anything else going on in town.”
The app currently also has links to various pages on the town’s website for departments, the town calendar, frequently asked questions and the town’s Facebook page.
Downloading and use of the app is free, and users can access it via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Rindge Alerts.” It is recommended that people allow the app to send notifications.
